ENMMC Recognizes Employees for the Employee of the Year and Nurse Excellence Award for 2021
1/18/2022
Congratulation to our Employee of the Year Diana Carrillo, R.N.
Diana is a role model for her peers. She has been a preceptor on the medical floor not just because of her clinical competence but because of her engagement with the patient experience as well. She leads by example and holds her preceptees to a high standard. She mentors them well after their orientation period is complete and is always there to give them praise and coaching when applicable. She does this not only with those she has prevented, but with the entire team. She is the glue that holds the unit together and when she is not there it is palpable. She is an informal leader on the unit and has jumped in as charge nurse when the need arises without hesitation. Diana has been positively recognized numerous times in patient verbatim comments on the HCAHPS surveys.
Diana is a go-to proctor and involved in our nurse residency program for new grads. She has also been a preceptor and mentor to our international nursing professionals and their integration into the hospital and community. She was also the barcode scanning champion for the unit with a 99.67% rate over the last 12 months.
Diana is a natural leader on the unit. She has a positive energy and it is contagious among her peers. Diana always comes to work with a smile and a “can do” attitude. She is a natural caregiver and a strong clinician. While young in her career, the impact she has can be felt when she is on the unit. We would be a lesser hospital and medical/surgical unit without her presence.
Congratulations Megan Colby, R.N.
Nurse Excellence Award Winner for 2021
Megan exudes the meaning of servant leadership. She had accepted a new role as trauma program manager in the spring of 2020 and within weeks was confronted with what we are all too familiar with….COVID-19. She was asked to learn a new role in the hospital while also being the point of contact for emergency preparedness at the state level for our organization that was identified as a hub for the region. She handled it with ease and grace. She never once backed down in supporting the members of our community and ensuring we had the equipment and supplies we needed to care for our patient population.
In the winter of 2020 vaccinations became available to healthcare workers and other essential workers. We would be receiving thousands of doses of vaccinations in the upcoming months. Megan used her quick thinking to develop a vaccination clinic to efficiently provide essential workers eligible for the vaccine the opportunity without needing to wait in long lines. She involved the nursing students from the local nursing program and coordinated the administration of vaccines. These nursing students got to be a part of history and this nurse ensured they understood how important their contribution was to the members of our community. She spent endless hours setting up schedules and calling individuals to ensure that no vaccinations would go to waste. Her contribution to the community resulted in over 5000 vaccinations being administered all while still performing her role as the trauma program manager.
Megan’s contributions to community service did not stop there. She also still provided community outreach regarding stroke prevention, stroke signs and symptoms, heart attack prevention, heart attack signs and symptoms, and injury prevention. She has also participated in providing education to EMS in the region regarding trauma care and stroke identification and treatment. She has participated with local EMS at the National Night Out and provided information to local families about stroke, heart attack and injury prevention; many times on her days off or after her regular work hours. She never misses an opportunity to educate the community and its EMS care providers.
Megan takes time out of her work day to check in on patients as well. She will round on patients in our ER to see how their stay has been and address any concerns or issues. She takes care of the issues she can versus just passing the message along. She participates in the hospital's Patient Experience Meeting and always brings a positive energy to the group that makes everyone want to do better for our patients. She sets the example for the staff in the department and many times can be heard saying “This is what we are going to do because it is what is BEST for the patient”.
We are very proud to have Megan on our team!
