ENMMC Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive

Roswell, NM – To help address hunger in our community, and in celebration of National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day on April 2, ENMMC has donated more than 700 jars of peanut butter (and other nut butters) to Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.
All of that peanut butter was donated by ENMMC’s employees, medical staff, and Senior Circle members during the recent Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive.
The Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive was launched to help support individuals who are facing food insecurity, which is a social determinant of health.
“Food insecurity has a significant impact on a person’s overall health and wellbeing,” Warren Yehl, ENMMC CEO. “Through our Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive, we are working to help fight hunger in our community. Our generous employees - and even some patients - really stepped up to help us well-exceed our original goal of 500 jars.
Peanut butter is one of the most requested items for food banks because it is highly nutritious and has a long shelf life. Unfortunately, many food banks in America report it is also one of the least donated food items. Other foods needed by food banks include canned goods and boxed cereal.
“The outcome of the drive was absolutely overwhelming when we learned there would be 32,000 pounds in 749 containers coming our way! We are so grateful to all the staff members who contributed,” said LeeAnn Sandoval, president of Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. “We would also like to say thank you to Enrique Moreno with Roswell Community Disaster Relief for setting up the pick-up and delivery, and to Capitan Martinez for sending 10 Youth Challenge cadets to do the heavy work of packing, loading and unloading the peanut butter.” Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry serves is located in Hagerman, NM, and serves the Valley and surrounding area.
