Application Process
We are a rural training program. As such, we are particularly interested in applicants who desire a future practice in rural areas such as communities in New Mexico.
The ENMFPRP participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). PGY-I family practice resident applicants should apply through ERAS, the Electronic Residency Application Service.
All qualified applicants are welcome to apply.
Applicant Requirements
Passing USMLE board scores within 3 attempts
Graduation from medical school within the previous 5 years
One year of clinical experience, hospital-based, comparable to the U.S. medical school curriculum, (either during medical school or afterwards)
Physicians who are not U.S. citizens must have a valid work permit or a J-1 visa
In considering applications for our program, we review academic records, two letters of recommendation, national board scores, medical school transcripts, and publication and honors. You must submit a personal statement of 500 words or less that includes your answers to the following questions:
-
Why are you interested in training in rural New Mexico?
-
Outline your commitment to practice rural family medicine?
-
Describe your ideal medical practice after completing your residency?
-
Describe any volunteer activities and any participation in community groups.
-
What unique attributes do you bring to our organization?
Applications must be received through ERAS by November 1 for you to be eligible for a residency position in July of the following year. Interviews will be scheduled November through January. Two interviews are required -- one at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico and one at Eastern New Mexico Residency Program in Roswell, New Mexico.
